As I was getting ready for my internship this afternoon, my phone started ringing. To my surprise it was Randy Patrick calling me. When I picked up the phone he was straight to the point. He told me that he wanted me to go by myself (well with a photographer of course) and interview the head coach and all star running back for the Mobile Christian football team. I was instantly so excited and nervous at the same time. I would have to do a little background research and think of questions ON MY OWN to ask this headcoach and his high school player. No help from Mr. Randy, just me, myself and I.
When I got to the station, I paired up with a photog and we went just up the road a few miles to Mobile Christian high school. It was there that we had to wait around for the team to take a break and finally the head coach Neil Evans approached me. I was nervous but kept my composer and told him who I was and what I was going to be doing. He was friendly and agreed to let me interview him and his running back, Tyler Rogers.
I made it through my questions without even having to look down at my notebook. I believe I did a fairly good job at flowing from one question to the other and not seeming awkward or too inexperienced, like I had feared.
Now I am back at the station just waiting on Randy Patrick to come in and check my work for me. I’ll let ya’ll know his critique later! As for now, I am pretty pumped that I was trusted to go on my own for Mr. Randy!
